Where lipodysmorphia exists in the neck without excess skin and without
platysma muscle laxity, marked improvement in appearance can be achieved
by liposuction alone. This is especially true in younger individuals where
the ability of the skin to contract after surgery is quite high (Patient
I, Figure 1 and 2, Patient II, Figure 1 and 2).
This surgery may be performed under general anesthesia
or local anesthesia with sedation, requires minimal to no time off work,
and yields highly satisfactory results. As in many cases, this patient
presented for body liposuction consideration and was not aware of the cosmetic
deformity of the neck until it was pointed out. If platysma laxity, advanced
age, or chin recession is present then requirements for platysmaplasty
and or chin implant may also be present. For further information see (CHIN IMPLANTS and CHIN/NECK MODIFICATION).
